Gunnery Sergeant Ruben Earl Cravens, USMC, Retired, age 82, of Washington, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Washington. Ruben was born on January 1, 1936, in Reed, Kentucky to the late Truman and Ruth (nee Conley) Cravens. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 18 and retired after over 25 years of dedicated service to his Corps and Country. Ruben was united in marriage to Georgia (nee Strait) Wilson on May 25, 1985, in House Springs, Missouri, enjoyed camping and boating, and was a loving father and grandfather. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ozark Post 3246 in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018, from noon until 2 pm at Miller Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Ruben is survived by his wife, Georgia Cravens of Washington; four children, Rick Cravens and wife Cindie of Cedar Hill, Karen (nee Cravens) Schmees and husband John Jr. of St. Louis, Debbie Forest and husband Darryl of Cedar Hill, and Bev Durbin and husband Jeff of Labadie; former wife, Sharon Cravens of House Springs; five grandchildren, Anthony, Justin, Cristin, Caitlin, and Danielle; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Jack Cravens, Lola Doerhoefer, Ann Lois Van Cleave, Paul Cravens, Margaret Raley, and Irene Brown; one grandson, Lucas Cravens; and one step-son, Rick Wilson.
