Michael Straatmann Obituary

Michael A. Straatmann, 70 , of Washington, passed away on May 9, 2021 in Washington. Michael, son of the late Richard Straatmann and his wife  Dorothy nee Gildehaus, was born October 18, 1950 in Washington. He received his education from Washington High School. Mike served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army. He was an Iron Worker and member of Local 396. Mike loved scuba diving and was a certified rescue diver. He had many hobbies, but the main one was traveling.

Mr. Straatmann was preceded in death by his father; a son in infancy, Michael Matthew Straatmann, and brother-in-law, George Nordwald.

Among his survivors are two children, Sherri Straatmann of Washington and her son Blake Coleman and Matthew Straatmann and wife Mandy of Union; mother, Dorothy Straatmann of Villa Ridge; seven siblings, Ronald Straatmann and wife Julie of Villa Ridge, Joan Hackmann and husband Tom of Villa Ridge, Janet Nordwald of Washington, Terry Straatmann and wife Debbie of Villa Ridge, Jackie Kluesner and husband Pete of Washington, Glenn Straatmann and wife Luanne of Villa Ridge, and June Mallon and husband Dan of Defiance; other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 4-8 P.M. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10 A.M. at St. John’s Gildehaus Church. Interment, with full military honors will be at the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Honor Flight or the St. John’s Gildehaus School.
