Gilbert D. Broeker, 85 , of Washington, passed away on August 29, 2021. Mr. Broeker, son of the late David Broeker and his wife Anna nee Eckelkamp, was born on February 10, 1936 in Washington. He received his education from SFB Grade School. On January 4, 1958, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Courtoise at the St. Francis Borgia Church.
Gilbert served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army. He was a member of the VFW 2661, American Legion 218, and the St. Gertrude’s Parish in Krakow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ann Emke; grandson, Danny Lottmann; brother-in-law, Glennon “Dutch” Gerner, and two nephews, Michael Emke and Paul Gerner.
Among his survivors are his wife, Myrtle Broeker of Washington; two daughters, Patricia Voss and husband Dennis of Lee’s Summit, MO and Linda Lottmann of Washington; siblings, Vera Gerner Taylor and husband Terry of Washington, Glennon “Butch” Broeker of Marthasville, Dale Broeker and wife Valerie of Union, and Richard Broeker of Washington; three grandchildren, Christopher Voss and wife Laurel, Amanda Meador and husband Mykel, and Alyssa Williams and husband Jimmy; great-grandchild, Nova Marie Meador; In-laws, George Emke, Robert Courtoise, Janelle Tucker, Larry Courtoise, and Warren Courtoise; other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 4-7 P.M. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 10 A.M. at St. Gertrude’s Church. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the St. Gertrude’s Church or the Pregnancy Assistance Center.
