Elda Mae Toben

Elda Mae W. Toben, 88 , of Washington, passed away on June 2, 2021. Mrs. Toben, daughter of the late John Gildehaus and wife Agnes nee Maune, was born on September 8, 1932 in Gildehaus, MO. She received her education from St. Francis Borgia Grade School. On May 3, 1958, she was united in marriage to George “Yatts” Toben at St. Francis Borgia Church.

Elda Mae worked as an LPN, starting at St. Francis Hospital and then continuing when it became St. John’s Hospital and Mercy. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George “Yatts” Toben, and six siblings, Walter Gildehaus, Melvin Gildehaus, Ervin Gildehaus, Irene McDermott, Esther Muenks, and Armin “Pete” Gildehaus.

Among her survivors are four daughters, Jodie Miller and husband Craig of Washington, Karen Piontek and husband Dan of Washington, Luann Optican and husband Dr. Robert Optican of Germantown, TN, and Jane Kell and husband Dave of Washington; nine grandchildren, Megan Dolan and husband Sean, Sarah Fischer, Andrew Piontek, Alex Piontek, Kelly Piontek, Grant Optican, Grace Optican, Ryan Kell, and Nathan Kell; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Louis Dolan; sister-in-laws, Virginia Gildehaus of Washington and Adelaide Holtmeyer of Bellevue, NE; other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 9 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with interment in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Church or the Our Lady of Lourdes School.
