David Brueggeman Obituary

David J. Brueggeman, 66, of Washington, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2022. David, son of the late John “Jack” E. Brueggeman and Betty nee Hastelund, was born on May 17, 1956, in St. Louis. He received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri University of Science & Technology in Mechanical Engineering in 1979, he was a licensed Professional Engineer, and later in life, went back to school to get his MBA. On October 11, 1980, he was united in marriage to Barbara Kuhlmann in which they spent 42 wonderful years together.

He was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon where he was lovingly known as “Brueggy”. In 1979 he was awarded the distinction of being an Honorary Knight of St. of Patrick where he was “introduced” to ALICE. He also earned the title of HS&P Champ of 1979 with a distance of 19’ 11”.

Dave was a longtime employee of Ameren, having worked at both Callaway and Labadie power plants, and after achieving his master’s in business, transferred to the Ameren main headquarters in St. Louis.

Dave loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, cooking, travelling, visiting with his grandchildren, spending time at Table Rock Lake and at deer camp near Shelbina Missouri. But mostly, Dave loved people. He would do anything for anybody, whether he was asked or not. He had the ability to stay in touch with so many people, that it left us wondering how he had time to get anything else accomplished. He was a very devoted Husband, Brother, Father, and Grandfather. He truly loved the time he was able to spend with each and every one of his friends and family.

He was a proud and active member of the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. His strong loyalty and Christian witness are what defined his faith.

Dave was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Dolores Kuhlmann, and nephew, Keith Kuhlmann.

Among his survivors are his wife, Barbara Brueggeman of Washington; three children, John Brueggeman and wife Jennifer of Lake St. Louis, Kevin Brueggeman of Washington, and Jamie Brueggeman of Columbia; sister, Lori (Brueggeman) Parker of Fenton; two grandchildren, Rachel and Norah Brueggeman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Kuhlmann and wife Diane, Debbie Kuhlmann, Jean Eckles and husband Scott, and David Kuhlmann and wife Laurie; nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
